Critical thinking exercise 12.5: Moral disengagement
Unfortunately some professionals do disengage from their job and professional responsibilities. The process of moral disengagement (see p.151 of the book) involves
- reconstructing conduct
- displacing responsibility
- disregarding injurious consequences
- dehumanising or blaming the service user (see Chapter 12)
It is proposed that most nursing and midwifery students will have experienced moral disengagement in qualified practitioners by the point of registration
